In 2023, NSF FAIROS RCN (#2226271) funded technical enhancements and community to build STEM Ed+ Commons, an Open Science Research Coordination Network that adheres to and promotes FAIR, CARE, and TRUST principles. This work enabled our parent platform (Knowledge Commons) to rebuild its repository infrastructure using the InvenioRDM platform. This advanced repository, KC Works, launched in open beta in 2024, offering powerful tools for research data management as well as for open dissemination of research outputs. STEMEd+ Commons and its repository Collection include a wide range of affordances supporting Open Science, including automatically minting DOIs for deposits, versioning DOIs as work is updated, automatically generating citations in multiple formats, pushing deposit metadata to ORCID. Additionally, deposits in STEMEd+ Collections, can be connected with STEMEd+ Commons Groups to support interaction with new deposits. We also provide APIs that can be used to query the repository, to create remote deposits, and to connect the repository with many other scholarly systems.
Beginning in 2026, STEMEd+ Commons is collaborating with Knowledge Commons on NSF FAIROS grant (#2531819). This work seeks to transforming the academic publishing ecosystem by creating a digital workflow for open publication, review, and assessment without monetary limitations and to support author development and knowledge production.
